Chicken Saddle How-To

This is how we measure our chickens so that you can get a visual on it. This is a very easy process - we'll take you through measuring all the way to putting the saddle on. Either watch this video, or read the instructions below it.

Here's a simple diagram that might help:

Or he's our step-by-step:

First off, you want to take something small, like a shoestring or in our case a random string of some sort. Grab up your chicken and put her in your lap or on a chair (like we did)

Like the picture above, you want to take the string and measure from the base of her neck to the base of her tail. Mark this and move on to measuring her sides.

This is a rough guess. Measure about halfway down her wings to the other side in the same spot. Mark this as well. Next, you'll want to compare your measurements to an actual tape measure.

From this, you'll have a much better understanding of what size you should order! Next, when you get your saddle you'll want to put it on her!

003.jpg

Start off by placing it on her back, and then you'll want to get ready for the hardest part of this - but not impossible!

Place the elastic around the very top of her wing and then pull it back a little so that you can get your fingers in there to grab her wings. When you do, pull them through the elastic bands.

She most likely won't appreciate this but once it's on, it will make a comfortable fit so that she can't pull it off. Some times, putting it on can be a little comical..

Some will fall over (like above), walk in circles, walk backwards or run around like she's crazy - and others will move on like nothing had happened! Before you release her, make sure that her saddle is sitting square on her back and everything is perfect!

I hope this helped, at least a little bit! If you have any questions please email me!
